Tania Doko and James Roche have spent more than 25 years establishing Bachelor Girl as one of Australia’s most enduring and beloved pop acts. Their double platinum debut album, Waiting for the Day (1999), earned the duo the ARIA Award for Producer of the Year and launched the timeless hit Buses and Trains, which won APRA Song of the Year, is officially recognised among Australia’s 100 Greatest Songs, and remains one of the country’s most-played compositions.

The success of the album extended internationally, leading to a signing with Clive Davis’ Arista Records in the United States and releases throughout Europe and Asia. Tania’s unmistakable voice has since been recognised with a place in Triple M’s Top 300 Greatest Singers of All Time.

Waiting for the Day also delivered fan favourites including Treat Me Good, Lucky Me and Permission to Shine, while sophomore album Dysfunctional (2001) featured the hit I’m Just A Girl. After taking time to pursue acclaimed songwriting and production careers throughout Sweden and the UK, Tania and James reunited in 2018 with Speak, before returning in 2023 with Calling Out Your Name, earning editorial support from Spotify’s New Music Friday and joining Darren Hayes on his Australian Do You Remember? tour.

Their celebrated live show has seen Bachelor Girl share stages with Eurythmics, The Goo Goo Dolls, Simple Minds and The Corrs, while also appearing on iconic Australian events including A Day on the Green and the Red Hot Summer Tour.

In 2026, Bachelor Girl open an exciting new chapter with Waiting for the Day: Artist Sessions—a landmark reimagining of the album that started it all. Bringing together some of Australia’s and New Zealand’s most celebrated artists, including Delta Goodrem, Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Darren Hayes, Tommy Emmanuel, Ella Hooper, Kaylee Bell and more, the collaborative project reintroduces the songs that defined a generation while celebrating the songwriting that continues to resonate today.

The release will be accompanied by a national Australian tour celebrating the enduring legacy of Waiting for the Day, before taking Bachelor Girl’s timeless catalogue to regional audiences and summer festival stages across the country.

James Roche

Record producer, songwriter and keyboard player – James Roche contributes a strong legacy to the nation’s popular music culture. Song of the Year “Buses and Trains” is officially included in Australia’s best 100 songs of all time

Starting out as a ‘country boy’ in Ballarat, Victoria, James began playing keyboards three nights a week in a resident nightclub band at only 15. Despite this early sign that music would be a career, James completed school and went on to study Computer Science at university before finally succumbing to the siren call of professional music-making.

​James played in a multitude of bands in Melbourne including diverse cover bands, fusion jazz bands, blues bands and even piano bar. In the late Eighties and Nineties James became a regular touring keyboard player, for artists such as Tommy Emmanuel, John Farnham, and Little River Band. He also worked as an occasional Music Director and composer for television shows and large concerts.

​Developing a studio career throughout this time saw James gigging less and concentrating on production and writing work. Development of Bachelor Girl began in 1992, and eventually saw the duo sign a record deal with Gotham Records and BMG. The first single was a huge success, earning James the APRA award “Song Of The Year” as composer, won him and Tania Doko ARIA award “Producer Of The Year”, and became the most performed song on Australian radio that year.

​Bachelor Girl occupied James’ time until 2004, when he moved to London and married girlfriend Chelsea Plumley, a star of musical theatre. In addition to producing artists that came through the Australian Idol television program, James began focusing on new endeavours in screen composition. James spent four years in the UK scoring documentaries and feature films, returning to Australia in 2008.

Tania Doko

As songwriter and vocalist, Tania has proven her mark globally, particularly during her relocation to Sweden as a songwriter for hire.

She featured and has co-written with artists including The Veronicas on ‘DON’T SAY GOODBYE’, ‘JOYRIDE’ for the U.S Disney film ‘STEP UP 3’, Taylor Dayne’s Club U.S Billboard no.7 hit single ‘FLOOR ON FIRE’, ‘WHAT YOU’VE DONE TO ME’ for Samantha Jade, (hitting no.1 and four times platinum) ‘RISK IT’ for Jessica Mauboy, and co-wrote/contributed backing vocals on Tina Arena’s LOVE SAVES album, entering no.1 on the ARIA Australian album chart. She has also co-penned hits for Aussie band Sheppard and various Kpop/Jpop stars. In 2022 Tania won the Australian Women in Music(AWMA) Songwriter Award, and in 2023 she was announced a place in the Top 300 of Triple M’s ‘Greatest Singers of All Time’ list.

Tania has taken on roles in TV and theatre worlds, too, including a mentor role on Channel 7’s Popstars and a lead role in Tim Rice’s Musical Spectacular alongside Kate Ceberano, INXS and Anthony Warlow.

Upon relocating to Australia, Tania reignited her career as a solo artist, kicked off by her participation in SBS’s ‘Eurovision-Australia Decides’ in 2019 with more of her acclaimed pop writing in ‘PIECE OF ME’ and in 2023 released her highly anticipated solo EP ‘THE BEAUTY IS IN THE BROKEN’ with Swedish producer Mattias Lindblom. Her hypnotic single ‘HARDER NOW’ enjoyed a no.4 AIR chart release and a much loved reception from industry and fans. As a live performer, her earthy vocals and charismatic story telling continue to win over hearts from festivals to intimate theatres, nation wide.

2024/2025 has called on Tania to try on new exciting ventures, including MC-ing the Gold Coast Music Awards at HOTA, as well as in depth mentoring for emerging artists for Australian Independent Records Association(AIR). Dovetailing her youth work background with her passion for music making, she’s a regular consultant and panelist for music industry events like Indie-con and for organisations like APRA. In between her passions for Bachelor Girl, solo career, her APRA ambassador role, songwriting for outside artists and live performing, with a degree in Psychology/ Criminology and background in youth work to boot, Tania is committed to mentoring up-and-coming artists…helping them maximise their voice and opportunities in a complex, modern music industry.
